Call for Presentations

We write to announce the plan for a virtual/online 2021 SITAR conference. In our recent poll, many of you expressed interest in gathering virtually this year rather than waiting another whole year. As a result, we are excited to offer an opportunity for SITAR-style communion and sharing of interpersonal research and clinical applications.

Gathering virtually and hosting it in a casual (not outsourced) manner will keep the SITAR “feel” of a small gathering and keep conference fees low.

This gathering will prioritize graduate students’ brief live talks and posters, plus a keynote and methods workshop by professionals, but presenters at all career stages are welcome. The conference will take place on June 18 and 19. We currently expect the conference to fall on two half-day afternoons, Eastern Standard Time (to limit “Zoom fatigue”). For presenters whose time zones make that timing unfeasible, we will consider alternative options (e.g., prerecorded talks).

If your presentation was accepted last year for the Seattle meeting that was cancelled, you will have the option of a “pre-accepted” presentation of that work this year. Of course, new submissions are welcome. You will be asked to indicate new versus previously accepted work in the submission portal.

Registration

Conference registration is now closed.

Submission Information

Submissions will be handled online using Microsoft’s Conference Management Toolkit (CMT). To submit a proposal, visit the CMT portal using the link above and create an account. Then log in, click the “Create New Submission” button and follow the instructions. Questions regarding the CMT portal can be emailed to the web chair. Submissions are due on April 16, 2021.

Presentation Formats

Virtual Poster Presentations
Poster Presentations can be used to report a completed research project, pilot study, or work-in-progress. A virtual poster session will put each presenter into a separate Zoom breakout room where they can share their screen and show their poster. Attendees will be able to join these breakout rooms to view and discuss the posters. To ensure that posters are visible on a shared screen, we recommend using a large font size (you may also save your poster as a PDF so that you can zoom in on specific parts more easily).

Virtual Oral Presentations
Oral Presentations are generally reserved for completed research studies, although theoretical and methodological papers will also be considered. Virtual oral presentations will involve live (or, in special circumstances, pre-recorded) presentations in the main conference Zoom room. Each oral presentation will include a 10-minute talk and a 5-minute discussion period.

Online Record
Presenters are encouraged (but not required) to upload their posters and oral presentations to the Open Science Framework so that they can be accessed after the meeting and by interested parties that were not able to attend. We will set up a meeting portal to group all the SITAR2021 presentations together. Adding your presentation will be as easy as sending an email. More details to follow soon!

Grants and Awards

Wiggins Student Award
To apply for the Jerry S. Wiggins Student Award for Outstanding Interpersonal Research, select the “Wiggins Award” option while submitting a proposal to the conference. The award is presented annually by the Society of Interpersonal Theory and Research in order to recognize and promote outstanding student research in interpersonal psychology. One award is given for the best student oral presentation given at the annual SITAR conference. More information can be found here.

Poster Award
To apply for the Poster Award, select the “Poster Award” option while submitting a proposal to the conference. After acceptance of the submission, posters should be submitted via email to the awards committee. The poster award is open to anyone – not just students! We will use a two-part judging process: The Awards Committee will evaluate the posters before the conference, creating a list of the top choices. At the conference, judges will then visit the posters of the top applicants in order to assess presentation style before determining the winner. The winner will be announced via email and SITAR listserve following the conference.

To view poster and slide presentations from SITAR2021, go to the image below to go to the OSF Meetings page. Note that posting presentations on this service is optional so not all presentations will be represented. To view the abstracts of all presentations, view the conference program instead.
